Directions from TAMU:
Take Texas Avenue south from campus, then turn left on Harvey Road. Take Harvey past the mall, under Highway 6, and further for a couple of miles. You'll come to an intersection with a light - C & J is the aluminum building on your right.

Veggie-friendly?
Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Man! *takes glasses off and wipes them while shaking head, then puts them back on* That was funny! If you're vegetarian and your carnivorous friends drag you here, your best bet is to have a Coke or a beer while looking mournfully at the dead cows, pigs, and chickens on the plates of your dining companions, and making snarky commentary. You can't even get dairy products for your baked potato, and I wouldn't put it past them to have somehow snuck meat into the potato salad.

Now that Tom's BBQ has shut down, C & J's, along with Martin's, is about the only non-chain BBQ in town. The aluminum building C & J's occupies looks like a combination gas station and feed store. For good reason, actually: it used to be a combination gas station and feed store. They sold BBQ sandwiches on the side for years and years (since before 1985, which is when I first ate there) and once the BBQ sideline became more profitable than the feed and gas, switched to serving food full-time. Hint: don't sit at a table that is directly under a fan and a light fixture - the shadow of the fan crossing the light source at full speed makes your eyeballs hurt.

They serve brisket, both sliced and chopped, ribs, sausage, and chicken, in sandwiches, by the plate, or by the pound, potatoes with BBQ toppings (no butter or sour cream here!), beans, potato salad, cole slaw, chips, soda, and beer. If you call 24 hours in advance, they can provide food for parties or get-togethers of up to 100 people.

Tends to be crowded at lunchtime - go a little early or a little late.
